What is Disability Justice?

PCVU strives for all our work to advance and align with Disability Justice, an inclusive approach to making social change created by disabled queer women of color. Ahead of our FREE showings of Crip Camp in Raymond and Long Beach, we wanted to share a quick rundown on Disability Justice:

  • Disability Justice recognizes that the world’s unfair ideas about who matters come from unjust systems of power like racism and ableism. These systems are connected to each other, have been around for hundreds of years and continue to oppress some groups of people to benefit others.

  • Disability Justice believes that all bodies are unique, valuable and worthy, and these unjust systems of power affect all of us in complex ways.

  • Disability Justice helps us disrupt systems of power, fight oppression and build a world where everyone is loved, valued, cared for and treated fairly.

We can’t wait to see you at Movie Night—the first of many Disability Justice events to come—and dive into these topics together. Bring your appetite for free popcorn!
